Hang on...

Hang on... Is "body doubling" literally just the way that humans are adapted for working together?
Is body doubling actually more natural (for lack of a better word) for us? Do humans just tend to thrive better when they do the work of life in community with each other?

@artemis Yes. Yes. And yes.
But it doesn't suit corporate interests to hire two people to do one task, so they force us all to unlearn that behaviour from as young an age as they can get to us.

Even as a severe introvert (and autistic), I am sooo much more "productive" in group settings.
Helping prepare a community meal? "Easy! Where do you want me?"
Cooking for myself? "I don't think I have the willpower to do this."

For instance, when I look at tribal communities with collective work routines, I see something that would make it far, far easier for me to participate in useful work that needs doing.
Executive dysfunction might be less of a problem in a community that routinely works together instead of separately. I wouldn't need to keep up the "willpower" to get stuff done & I'd be less likely to get distracted or off task.

@artemis going to look up body doubling.
That's just not eating until you're about double in size?
