Trying to wrap my mind around leisure activities, in the sense that some of them seem to be approval-farming ("look at me, I'm doing X") instead of being something I might enjoy for its own sake.

There's a part of me that wants to do more of some activities, but I'm stopped when I think do I really want to do them or do I want approval from others for doing them? I'm suspecting the latter, and I'm trying to consciously do fewer approval-seeking behaviors. Many folks seem to enjoy denying approval from others out of some weird kind of competition, and that's a bad cycle to get into.

Reducing approval-seeking behaviours sounds like a good effort to be making.
Honest question, because introspection is bloody difficult sometimes: when you're doing something of your own volition, can you tell if you're actually enjoying the thing itself, rather than the prospect of the consequences of the thing?
