          Pre-teen me reading my Above & Beyond encyclopedia set and watching the Gemini & Apollo launches never foresaw us filling space with trash.

              @sundogplanets I'm pretty sure they will trigger the Kessler syndrome long before we reach satellite numbers like that, and then, the Space Age will be over, no more satellites until most of the debris cloud has deorbited, and by the time we could theoretically launch rockets again, we won't have any industries left that could produce them.

                Reminds of when we used to add lead to gasoline, creating a microscopic layer of water-soluble toxic material on everything -- because 'anti-knock' for autos.

                No one wanted anyone thinking about that, either. It took a battle.
