Having a bitch about a public figure who is very loud about what a great ally they are to a particular marginalised group, but I have rarely (never?) seen them give their platform/space to someone from this group. Allies, ask yourselves:
- What practical steps do you take to PLATFORM marginalised ppl? When do you step out of the limelight and usher someone else in?
- Whose work are you not just regurgitating, but sharing?
Don't speak *over* or *for* someone, hand them your microphone!

I am not the best at doing this, by any stretch. But I have a platform and I want to share it.
If you think you're underrepresented in the sex space, and you'd like a platform (and payment) to discuss that, or just tell a story that you think most people don't get to hear, pitch me.

If you want to write a guest blog, that would be bloody lovely. Guest blogs in the past have included such diverse topics as foot fetishes, sex work, first time sex, and how difficult it is to chat up that beautiful person who makes your cappuccino in Starbucks. I am primarily interested in first-person sex […]

I try to actively reach out to people too, but I have less time to do that these days cos of Bonus Job. I do try to read all pitches and respond to everyone tho.

@girlonthenet "Ally" is a thing you do, not a badge you wear. JKR says she's a fucking trans ally, if that tells anyone how much you can trust anyone self-identifying as such.

@SymTrkl exactly this. It's not something you award yourself, but a challenge you issue to yourself. It frustrates me when people talk about what great allies they are. That time could be better spent... actually doing The Thing.
Also I had no idea JKR claimed to be an ally. The depth of her delusion holy shit!

@girlonthenet As far as GSM folks go, the fact that you have given so many of us a platform is why I was comfortable to pitch that first guest blog; I don't think a lot of cis folks get how much trust in one's host it takes to talk about trans sexuality outside of an explicitly trans space. I feel that "I could do better" is always the right outlook on such things, but I also think you've been doing pretty good.

@SymTrkl ah thank you! This is lovely to hear! I promise I wasn't looking for cookies
but I appreciate that - and THANK YOU for your incredible contributions
Every new story told makes the site so much richer, and I am bowled over by the brilliant things people share! -

@girlonthenet In her "I'm actually the victim here" essay, she claimed it, and possibly even believed it, but notably also said "if you were oppressed, I'd march with you," and that load-bearing "if" was pretty revealing.

Hi @girlonthenet
I'm a #writer, and the only thing I can think of to platform women and LGBTQ+ is to feature them in my stories and have beta-readers from those groups to check representation.Do you have any other platforming ideas for writers?

@screwturn yes, read and share their work! You probably have readers who'd like to read work from others too, so make sure you keep boosting + sharing other people!
