MP responds to #Canada census privacy concerns

“A census helps govts plan transit, housing, and spot aging popns, labour shortages & demographic shifts.”

“It’s literally the opposite of none of your business. It is your business,”

“When people refuse the census, they’re not sticking it to Ottawa. They’re sticking it to their own community.”

@AnnaAnthro to which a good journalist should ask “so what has the federal government done since the last census about those subjects?”

@cow99 @AnnaAnthro a) Statistics Canada is responsible for getting the data, they don't make policy. b) Wow, that's ridiculous.

@cow99 I am pretty sure most of the data categories are created with & for provincial & municipal usage. Canada’s Constitution requires feds do the census but it is local governments that use the data. Health care and schools are provincial jurisdiction.
