The pseudoscience term "biological woman" is everywhere in mainstream media now. Just a reminder that while we might call a cat "female" no-one would ever call it a "woman". "Woman" is a human thing encompassing much more than just biology.

"Biological sex" erases trans people by denying the reality of gender identity.

"Biological sex" erases intersex people by falsely claiming there is a clear binary sexual dimorphism. The reality is that sex is complex and many-factored.

The concept of a sex binary is a recent invention of Western culture. Until the age of colonialism, variation in sexual characteristics was recognized as part of human diversity. Jewish traditions acknowledged 6 sexes. Ancient Greek medicine thought that different shades of male and female and everything in between mapped to different zones of the uterus. The war on intersex people really began in the 20th century when modern medicine decided typical genitalia were required for "normal" psychological development.

@SecondUniverse unrelated but related, I find the convention using female as an adjective to refer to women (ex "female airline pilots" or "female characters") absolutely bizarre.

If the context is research on the health effects of aviation on people who menstruate or something, they need to define that, as in any case only some females (Ferengi emoji) temporarily do that.

But "women airline pilots" strikes people as clunky or maybe uneducated.

TL;DR I'm normalizing "women" as an adjective

@SecondUniverse oops, you were still adding to this thread, I hope I didn't derail. Maybe I should have quooted.

And agree, it would be so cool if people just said "cis women" when they meant "cis women" etc.

@SecondUniverse the term makes me cringe every time. It's just not a meaningful phrase and idk how to get people to stop using it, other than being obnoxious about it every time someone says it.

              I'm biological and I'm a woman.

My body functions like a cis woman's in MOST ways.

The term is useless except as a way to perpetuate bad science and bigotry.

Modern biology recognizes sex as a spectrum. The christo-fash and other haters are simply muddying the waters for the hate-primed and the sadly uninformed in an atrempt to falsely convince them that biology is (still) binary.

Perhaps someone, some group, has written an #ontology ?

I suspect fierce and vicious arguments could continue between people using terms with agreed specific defined meanings, but they might be more useful and less confusing to anyone on the periphery.

@Photo55 not sure I understand you, but "biological woman" cannot be understood as a term with an intelligible meaning, it simply dresses up a visceral hatred all nice and sciency.
