How frequently do you chat with LLM?
@falcennial Ngl, I'd prefer not to, but at this point it is seriously way better than google search...
(And that is mostly because of how enshittified the google search has become. Maybe I should just take some time and setup YaCy...)

@falcennial When I was forced to, the experience was terrible.
I always ask to connect me to a human. Some do so, some stay in their stupid loop. -

@falcennial less frequently than a few times a month, so I answered "not at all".

@falcennial Wow so many disgusting AI users to block in this thread! Thanks!
RE: https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/@grahamperrin/116623156879039297
@bunny_jane you're welcome.
For the record: my extremely infrequent use of ChatGPT is almost invariably a response to needlessly aggressive haters of AI.
The greater the aggression, the greater the likelihood that I'll use AI to respond.

"… no judgement has any right whatsoever to enter into the exercise. …"
If you prejudge me to be a proponent of AI, you'll be mistaken.

@UrbanCityCowboy is the loudspeaker now on the wagon?
Electronics plus liquid is rarely a good mix.

@falcennial What can I say, I like the company of the own nonsense my brain generates
@farah spoken like a true fellow resident of beige.party
Here, have a sip of my own nonsense. This one's on the house.

@indigoparadox I miss old search too! duck duck go still has one.

@falcennial I have, back in 2024, or whatever, as a diversion, to see what it was like. It didn't really interest me that much.

No AI in my Startpage results.

@falcennial where is the "over my dead body" option?
-
@indigoparadox@mastodon.social @falcennial@mastodon.social
startpage used to be amazing a few years ago, then they decided to switch to primarily using Bing for some reason.
Worth pointing out startpage added an AI option a few months ago. They say it's optional but I haven't seen any assurances that your actions and/or searches aren't training their pet AI.@Theriac @falcennial I didn't realize they'd moved to Bing... I was just having a minor crisis of "was it my imagination?" but they *do* still seem to be objectively better than DDG insofar as they get results from inside of github while DDG did not seem to... Huh.

@indigoparadox@mastodon.social @falcennial@mastodon.social
They have aggregate results and Bing is one of their sources. The main difference is DDG tends to be more scattershot in its approach - between the two I find startpage faster at finding what I'm looking for -

@falcennial This might be splitting hairs but I answered "no" because I don't "chat" with an LLM. I write queries like "split an array safely in bash 5.0". For me it's important to not fall for the anthropomorphic user interface and just query the LLM.

Not sure where "as infrequently as possible" falls. I aim for "Not at all", but sometimes get suckered into it using websites' "Chat with a Live Agent" that turns out to be a bot
