    You can attach images, video files or audio files to Mastodon posts:

    🖼️ Images can be PNG, JPG, HEIF, WEBP, AVIF or GIF (including animated GIFs)

    📺 Video clips can be MP4, M4V, MOV or WebM files

    🔈 Audio clips can be MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, OPUS, AAC or 3GP files

    The maximum file size for each image is usually 16 MB, for video or audio it's usually 99 MB. There is no restriction on running time, just file size.

      @FediTips thanks; I didn't know I could post audio files! That simplifies things as I won't have to make a video every time I post music.

        @FediTips

        Do you know what they're actually hosted as? I know with audio(on my instance anyway), it gets transcoded to 128k mp3. Kind of annoying when I upload a nice opus file, and it gets needlessly degraded. Not the end of the world course, but annoying just the same.

          @lxskllr

          It's not documented, but I think they are transcoded to formats that help to keep the server running costs low.
