I really hope that new #NDP leader #AviLewis turns out to be better at the job than he seems like he will be. I'm wary of yet another overconfident man with more experience talking than actually doing. And while electoral reform is certainly important, it's not what I personally would rank as the number-one-thing-to-top-all-others.

I like the hopefulness that the leadership change has brought to the party. I like seeing all the social media posts from convention, and the joy in people's faces to be around others who hold perfectly-reasonable views about basic social issues (which shouldn't be novel, but here we are, in a world where the "centre" has shifted so far right as to be almost indistinguishable from christian nationalism).

But I really wanted someone who was prepared to fight for more than just the most banal of issues.

@ClintonAnderson @Polywog Agreed. Jagmeet Singh got the concessions he did from Justin Trudeau because the NDP held the balance of power in a minority government. PR gives progressives a much better chance to do more than criticize.

I'll completely agree that's It's not the most important thing in and of itself, but I think it would be an excellent first step.
