    It's official! This Sunday will be the last "leap forward" in BC!

    As of next November, the Vancouver time zone in British Columbia, Canada will be referred to as "Pacific Time" and will be -7GMT permanently. (same as Yukon Territory which did this 2 years ago)

    The presser was pretty cute actually. They had kids with little clocks, and they danced.

    I would have preferred staying at Standard Time, but this will be ok too. It's interesting that Premier Eby made a point of (gently, as there were kids) insisting the delay of 6 years since the overwhelming survey response from British Columbians to eliminate the time change was due to waiting for the US West Coast states to do the same.

    Now, BC has decided to push, and to lead by example.

        @chris Permanent DST...
        When the idea of time zones was implemented, it was about having local time coincide with solar time. DST is a jerk to the side by the business interests who want people to have more shopping time at the end of the work day, so we get to have the sun overhead at one rather than at noon. Besides, I'm not comfortable being on the same distortion as Danielle Smith. W'know what other jurisdiction is more than a little out of whack? Spain is on the same time as Berlin, because 1939, Franco and Hitler. Eby screwed the pooch.

          @chris Oh, joy! Vancouver winters will be a lot more bearable when I get at a little time in the sun after work. (When it's not raining)

            @chris I am quite glad they chose Daylight Savings year around over the alternative. People I've talked to often didn't seem to understand that standard time would shorter summer evenings etc. 🤷

            @michaelrussell @chris summer evenings are long enough already. I start work at 7:30am. I would prefer to not have hours of dark in the winter mornings. Still I’ll take it however it comes. Either is better than a time change.

                @Dero_10 I actually hope for this so that BC switches to Standard, but this will now be the unpopular view around here so you didn't hear it from me 😉

                  @chris
                  My sister and I, as kids tried to disabuse our mother, a kind and loving woman, of the notion that the twice yearly clock change was necessary to stay in sync with some abrupt natural cosmological twice yearly event.

                  We looked at each other, and without a word realised that in some areas, we were on our own.

                      @chris

                      It's actually the opposite case in the original 19th century implementations of standard timezones and their precursors: it was for railway companies to get away from local solar time. This eased the creation and coordination of train schedules (and avoided collisions due to mismatched clocks).
