@dailygrail I went to a Catholic school in the early 2000s, and they taught us demonology and angelology in religion classes. I had my religion class right after science as a freshman. Weirdest shit I've ever seen.

"demon" is Christian for "god or spiritual figure from a much cooler religion".

Like, to nerd out a little bit, two famous devils from Polish folklore are Boruta and Rokita. One is the name of a Slavic spirit that protected forests, the other of a spirit that lived in willow trees.

They both got co-opted into Christian stories and that's how they survive in later legends.

"Boruta" is an Old Polish word that actually MEANS "the one that dwells in the forest" ("bór" being an old Polish word for "forest").

Yes, I'm sure a creature they named "the forest guy" is definitely a Christian devil from a Christian fiery version of hell /s

EDIT: Leszy (or Leshy if you want to transliterate), known in the West for his appearance in Witcher books and games, was a major pagan Slavic deity whose name also literally means "of the forest". I didn't know Christian Hell had this many oaks and beeches and shit growing in it.

@lemgandi @dailygrail The Aeneid is awful. It's written as a propaganda piece in opposition to the Iliad, to justify the brutality of Rome.

Read the Iliad or Dante's Divine Comedy instead. Much better. Dante is also writing in opposition to the Aeneid, in order to take the narrative back and turn the worldview of his people back to the idea of love wins over hate, just like Jesus btw, that Virgil only inspires hate, which is ofc why he's in hell in the Inferno and is there of his own choosing.
