Saw a video this morning with a scene that triggered memories long locked away, and I gasped. That memory triggered my recalling a cascading string of traumatic incidents in Spring 1980 that led to my dropping out of college, quitting my radio job and leaving Greenville NC (home of ECU) within a week. Took a train to DC and arrived with just $300, two bags of clothes, and the promise of a couch to sleep on 'for a couple weeks" made by a friend.I was assaulted on the street by a group of frat boys who called me a "filthy faggot", and one of them, the ringleader, threatened, "If I ever see you again, I'll kill you." I took him at his word.#PrideMonth
