@reverend ich verstehe das sehr gut und du hast prinzipiell recht. Ich betreibe ja auch MakerTube und sehe dass es bei der Sichtbarkeit und den Viewerzahlen nicht richtig vorangeht. Der bescheidene Aufbruch den wir gerade bzgl. Peertube sehen wird dann in kurzer Zeit wieder vorbei sein und Instanzen werden wieder verschwinden. Daher meine Initiative mit PeerSeek. Wir brauchen diese Debatte.

So #YouTube allows creators like this to upload additional audio tracks to videos. Fantastic on the one hand. On the other hand, this is actually a *worse* experience than just uploading an AD version of the video. Firstly, I don't know what videos have more than 1 audio track without checking every single one of them. Like the CC indicator, I'd love an indicator of how many audio tracks a video has *before* I watch it. All these videos have AD, but one would never know that until checking each and every one of them. We have received a Copyright claim from Amazon for our @peertube instance videos.trom.tf/ . Hetzner, the hosting company where we have the dedicated server at, gave us 24h to resolve it.The problem?The video in question, a documentary about "aliens", a garbage piece of content, was NOT hosted on our instance, of course. But since Peertube is federated the idiots sent the claim to our hosting company. Even if UNDER the video you can see that video is "Posted By:" and the instance and username. It takes a few seconds to see where the video is hosted.But who cares...maybe Amazon has "AI Agents" employed and they simply find a video of theirs on a URL and see the IP of that URL and submit a Copyright claim to the hosting where that domain is registered?!Bunch of idiots.But it is very concerning the fact that they can do these and we, the ones who host (and for free for that matter), need to quickly "fix" these things even if the claim has nothing to do with our server.We eventually had to block that URL, thanks Peertube for allowing that, else these idiots cannot understand that it was not us who were hosting that video.#peertube #fedi #fediverse

@adrianmorales There are a number of YouTube channels that also publish on PeerTube, and regularly tell their viewers on YouTube about the alternative way to watch them.For example @thelinuxexperiment is a popular one and there are many more.There are also YouTubers who are unable to publish all their videos due to YouTube's very weird automated moderation. They use PeerTube as a way to avoid YouTube's heavyhandedness.

@sef @fedimtl @lps that's probably true, although a lot of the ads are integrations these days which are hard to skip. I do like that there is a fairness to things, if you are watching a video, you are helping to distribute it as well especially if you leave it open a bit.With just straight streaming if you blocked/refused ads, that does suck for the host of the content.

no, they don't. just ha e to support flatpak. yes there are, but just support flatpak. HDMI 2.1 is a real issue. the most common options are accessible through a GUI. The last time I had to use the terminal was months ago. hardware support is better than windows in many ways and, yes, worse in others. Have older hardware that the OEM no longer supports? That thing will probably work better on Linux than it ever did on Windows. That's my experience, anyway
