Having guided #Panama's successful independence from #Colombia the year before to gain control of the #PanamaCanalZone, the USA on #ThisDayInHistory in 1904 began construction on its attempt at the #PanamaCanal. Over 25k people total died building it, many of them #AfroCaribbean.
