Southern #California mastodonians, I’m doing a thing!Saturday, May 30, I’ll spend an hour geeking out about mastodons at the Western Science Center in Hemet. Get up close and personal with #fossil mastodons in the WSC collection, learn how to identify mastodons, how to determine a mastodon’s age, and more. $12 per person, maximum of 10 people. #museum #paleontology https://www.westernsciencecenter.org/calendar/2026/5/30/60-minute-science-all-about-mastodons

This week’s Fossil Friday is a Late Cretaceous sea star from Alberta (APS 1987.038). It was found in the Cardium Formation, which formed along the shallow margin of the Western Interior Seaway. This seaway bisected North America, connecting the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. This sea star would have lived in the warm, shallow waters along that margin. It was found by Harvey Negrich and Don Sabo.
