The modern history of African nations is, to say the least, clouded by those who seek to protect their perceived innocence and/or non-involvement. This film is a curative. The Democratic Republic of Congo was a Belgian colony, then gained its independence, then was seen by western influences as important, and so was ‘soft-colonized,’ to coin a term. Those in the Black Community, including Abby Lincoln and other jazz artists, were not having any of it. So they caused a disturbance in the UN General Assembly chamber. This is the story of how that came to pass. It is complicated, but the events leading to its conclusion are nonetheless horrifying due to that complexity. You won’t see Dulles, Eisenhower, or Khrushchev in the same way again.Highly recommended.★★★★★#review #CineMastodon #Kanopy #VPL #documentary
