I had a chance to sit in on my first Irish session last weekend!!!I didn't play as I only know one jig and I'm not able to play it very fast yet (I'm at 160BPM with the Swallowtail Jig) right now working towards 200BPM). So I introduced myself and then sat at a closeby table and drank some beer while listening to the session. It went on for two hours and I took good notes and enjoyed myself quite thoroughly. Cool thing happened!!!After the session was over, folks sat with me and we got to know each other. They gave me tips and encouraged me to keep practicing. After a bit, I pulled out my whistle and played the Swallowtail Jig, to show them where I was at. And get this!!! A fiddle player heard me start playing and pulled out his fiddle and plucked along with me!That's the first time I've played with anyone else! It's a simple thing, but I can't express how elated I was. They invited me to sit with them next time. Knowing full well I'm a proper beginner and learner with only a single jig under my belt.
