NPR:How the FBI might have gotten inaccessible camera footage from Nancy Guthrie's house"...What if a user doesn't pay for a subscription?Google's Nest cameras offer Google Home Premium subscription plans, which allow users to keep "highlights" of recordings from 30 to 60 days, or 24/7 video history. But if a user doesn't have a subscription, "That doesn't mean the data doesn't still get pushed up into the cloud, which it likely did," ....What happens when footage is deleted? When a user or company "deletes" data, it may not actually be deleted immediately, Jones said. The U.S. has fairly lax privacy regulations, so in many cases, it's up to the company to determine what they do with the data, and how long they hold on to it..."#privacy #cloud #cameras https://text.npr.org/nx-s1-5711620

So the big game is over with, and we get to exercise America's real favorite pastime: talking about the commercials! Well there was one commercial I think we should talk about, since it focused on reuniting lost pets with their families. The problem with that lovely facade is the privacy nightmare that enables those reunions. Spoiler alert: even as a dog owner I don't think the tradeoff is worth it.https://www.between-two-firewalls.com/outsourcing-the-surveillance-state-home-security-camera-edition/#Privacy#Cameras#Pets#SuperbOwl
