I don't have a problem with HDMI out glasses... that's just another display device.

I do have a problem with glasses which also incorporate a camera, a microphone, and also upload all that shit to a datacenter somewhere

@aredridel @cwebber is it even possible to do all the image analysis and description shit on-device? I've never seen that be done

@cwebber I'm fine with the camera and microphone (because I could get someone to describe what I'm looking at but can't see).

you lost me at the "uploading to a datacenter" part, fuck that, nope, nope, you upload to my hardware or you don't upload at all. 🙂

@acidiclight In general I think the right thing is to have indicators that show that recording is happening. The ideal version is a physical shutter you can see as open or closed for the camera. But sadly this isn't going to be how this stuff rolls out.

@acidiclight Of course "you can see", admittedly, means that sighted people can see. It's not perfect there either. But increasing indicators of clear broadcasting of what's happening and what may need to be consented to, I think, is good

@aredridel @cwebber hmm. I've not seen a model good enough to do live image descriptions on-device to the extent that a server-based one can

@cwebber Unfortunately the alternative for my use case is waving my phone around in the middle of a grocery aisle like a lunatic lol

@cwebber @acidiclight Yeah, and what the Meta glasses have is easily disableable - so it's pretty sucky...

@cwebber what if it’s my data centre and it’s only just me spying on you?
