@Dianora You imagine correctly. Even if I fancied it, which I don't, 59 seems a bit late to start with that!

@lmgenealogy One of my sisters we have nicknamed our bionic sister as she has managed to break *both* hips. Once at work and once when she was feeding the birds or something in the woods. *g*
I haven't skated since one need a key for the roller skates. I'm older. 😉

@Dianora I started skating in those days too, I've just never stopped (until the broken hip). I applaud the recognition you afford your sister's bionicness (bionicity?). I tried to convince my son that my new hip makes me a cyborg, and he just rolled his eyes. Kids are so hard to impress. . . .

@lmgenealogy At least it's not 6 million $ with bad acting, improbable plots, and impossible physics.

For most of my adult life, I #rollerskated at least once, often twice a week. Then in 2019 I broke my hip (not while skating), which had to be replaced; then both parents declined and died; then there was a major (1000 km) move. . . . I haven't skated since. Saturday I'm going to the rink here in #Ottawa with a friend and I cannot wait.

Stay upright, please! I've gradually been dropping all of the "falling down" sports, since my bones haven't fared so well.

@EllenInEdmonton I have less trouble on wheels than walking on flat surfaces in flat shoes. I'm always in a hurry for some reason, even when there's no need to be.

I think that folks can keep up activities well into their later years, when they are activities they've maintained. <y problem is that I had long periods away from skiing and skating, in particular, so I can no longer trust my muscle memory for those activities. With skating, you have more control with speed, but I lack confidence to go fast! The local hill gives you a free pass once you're 80!

@EllenInEdmonton I've had a hip replacement since the last time I skated, so it might not be as natural a return as I hope, but I love to skate and have missed it, so I expect it will come back. Not a skiier, though.

Definitely a great idea to return to the things that you love! I adore canoeing, but I can no longer put a canoe rack on my car. I rely on the local clubs and check to see if there are canoe owners without partners whenever an interesting trip arises.

@EllenInEdmonton Yeah, you just have to make adjustments as the years pass. It sounds like you've found a way to keep doing what you like even though you can't do it in quite the same way.
