"Third Way" liberal politics involves *saying* things that working people love, but *doing* things that sociopathic plutocrats love. It works ...right up until voters notice that you're not *doing* the things. That realisation breeds cynicism and fury and paves the way for fascist strongmen. 2/

My next book is *The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI*, out next month. Pre-order it now, including as a DRM-free audiobook or ebook, at my Kickstarter, and help me continue to prove that DRM-free isn't just the *right* way to reach an audience, it's also the *best* way to reach them:

@pluralistic While I’m aware politicians exaggerate/use hyperbole to extremes at times, it seems we’ve arrived at a point in time where there needs to be accountability for outright lies/misdirection in politics. I think there are enough people who’d still want the top job if there was a threat of sanctions against them personally for not at least ‘trying’ to uphold promises. When they fail: Scapegoating the most vulnerable people is a despicable tactic, and I see it used all the time.

@pluralistic side note. Nobody has moved into 24 Sussex drive since Harper left the place completely trashed. The PM resides at Rideau Cottage.

Canada: "two monopolists and a mining company in a trenchcoat"

Way to tell it like it is!! Brilliant column.
I've been becoming increasingly upset with the "bait and switch" trick that these dirt bags have pulled. My new Liberal MP now ignores my emails completely and has revealed herself to be a full on Climate change denier.
I hope this column gets picked up by the bigger news sites.

@sleepy62 @pluralistic So is Canada having what we Americans call Fetterman Syndrome, formerly known as Sinema Complex? People who use the money of the formal party system to get elected and then open up to the highest bidder?
We would love to see the tax audits on these people.

From where I sit Canada absolutely is suffering from "Fetterman Syndrome".

@pluralistic It's funny how Mark Carney's 2025 book "The Hinge: Time To Build An Even Better Canada" (ISBN 9780771024955) completely disappeared from publishing schedules, now seemingly pushed out into the 2030s ...
