      HOW TO BUY BOOKS
The literary ecosystem is under attack, and I definitely care where you get my books. So I put together a guide to retailers for ebooks, audiobooks, and print.

@darwinwoodka used books don't support authors, but there's a note in the post about the benefits of those

@evilotto tbh I'm not entirely sure how Humble Bundle works but other bundling programs I've been part of have emailed epubs directly from the author. So I'm thinking they must cut out the big retailers in some fashion. Regardless, Humble Bundle is charity-focused (good, albeit not directly supporting the literary ecosystem), authors use it gain visibility for their books (good).

@susankayequinn @evilotto I noticed recently, though, that the default settings are only 5% to charity and 50% to HB, and if you customize the ratios, the HB share can't be lowered below 40% anymore.

I like Kobo. Long time user. I got started with them because my local bookstore contracted with them for ebooks. I made an account that linked them. Is that no longer a thing? I’ll have to investigate.

@CptSuperlative I think a lot of local bookstores tried to set up something like what you describe... and that may still be something, but I vaguely recall someone else saying that Kobo no longer supports that. but bookshop does! So yes, check it out...

@susankayequinn Was momentarily excited to find out about libro.fm but then I read their privacy policy and had to walk away.

There is no way to opt out of their use of google analytics except by installing a plug in written by google. And there is no way to opt out of third party advertising and the provision of personal information to third parties.

@Ooze kobo audiobooks are direct upload from selfpub authors. Library sales support authors. Chirp could be a good choice for sales pn audio.

@Ooze I also feel like there's no perfect solutions in any of this. I had to make several compromises in coming up with this guide. I'm not gonna let the perfect be the enemy of the good in this.

@susankayequinn Your books are also available on Libristo.eu, which is a great non-Amazon option in the EU.

I recently found Libristo and have so far been very happy with it. The orders may take a month to deliver if you order something they don't have in stock right away, but hey, at least you don't have to buy from Amazon.
