Hosted a zine making workshop inspired by @papertrail’s ongoing Cloud Factories research into landscapes designated as hyperscaler sites, bumped into long-time fellow lurkers (
@Seda ) and caught up with plenty of new and old friends.Some conclusions from this weekend (1/2):
- It was wonderful to be in a space where abolitionist responses to dominant Cloud and GenAI paradigms are the norm, not an exception
- As we resist, it is important to keep an eye on imaginaries for alternative futures, but our ability to critique should not be contingent on us having a ready-baked solution up our sleeve.
- Electricity grid congestion and gas power expansion is the common denominator of all data centre expansion projects.
