    @ShredderFeeder Socialism is oligarchy of government. It has very little to do with classless or heaven... some pigs are more equal than others in socialism's power dynamic by definition.

      @Scrimshaw9 @ShredderFeeder I think what you miss in animal farm, presuming you've read it, is that the pigs are also the animals that interface with the human world and their behavior becomes ever more like that of the farmer who they revolted against in the first place. Are they inherently corrupt or is their sway towards capitalism the corrupting force?

      I feel Orwell was a better writer than most of the people who quote him.

        @ShredderFeeder They further describe "heaven" as having streets lined with gold. People will swallow a whole lot on "faith" won't they?

        @PerryM @ShredderFeeder I mean... Would gold streets even be good? Seems like they wouldn't offer good traction for vehicles and be too cold and hard on the feet. Why not streets paved with clouds or the fluff and purr of kittens without the guilt of wearing them as mittens?

          @ShredderFeeder Socialism is in the bible - there's this bit where a gang of disciples pool their assets, if I remember correctly from school all those decades ago.

          @TimWardCam
          Not all of them pooled their assets. Lying about holding back some assets was a grievous sin. Note not the holding back, the lying.

            @ShredderFeeder The description of heaven is not quite fitting when it comes to Christianity. The Christian heaven has a hierarchy of people nearer to god and people farer from him. So a rich and priviliged Christian can die believing that he will have a better place in heaven than all the other peasants, at least when he is free of sin and did all the sacraments...

            @ennopark
            The bible often states Gods shows no favoritism. There is also the parable of the poor man in heaven and the rich man suffering in hell.

              @obscurestar @ShredderFeeder No. I didn't miss that but if you need it, I think you are very very smart. Just like your mother always told you.

                @ShredderFeeder Christians, yes.
                Muslim paradise is quite different and misogynistic, separate heavens for men, married women and maidens.
                Valhalla is even worse.
                Basically just a promise of everything you want as long as you toe the line.

                  @ShredderFeeder @wvi Perhaps because there would be unlimited resources in heaven.

                    @ShredderFeeder No, there is absolutely no irony: religion (at least those with eschatological ontology) needs the metaphysical, the beyond, the possibility of "immanentizing the Eschaton" scares the shit out of them because it destroys despair in this world and the need for submission to their rules and sacrifice in this life for those rewards in the life beyond.

                      @Illuminatus @ShredderFeeder always found it telling of who they really are that their worldview forbids trying to bring about the conditions of heaven lol
