@anyGould the problem with the current crop of AI is that the cost of training and running models is so high that basically they can only be profitable if they control the world. That's why they are being outrageous, if that's the goal you need to achieve then you can't really put any limits on yourself

I'm hoping that these companies explode themselves soon and we get second and third generation AI which are more efficient so the goal doesn’t needs to be global control

@Wearwolf It feels like it's going to backfire, though - you don't say the quiet world domination part out loud until after you're too big to fail!

@anyGould yes, there are some concerning things there

They are a huge part of the US economy right now and the US government loves big tech companies and might help sustain them to get a part of that global control

Plus the idea of getting more work out of less employees is super appealing to managers that they could buy into it despite every warning sign out there

@Wearwolf I can absolutely see a level of mid-management that is thrilled with this - a direct edict from above (meaning if this all blows up, it ain't their fault), plus a way to "reduce expense" (which makes their numbers look better, at least in the short term). It won't even matter if anything actually gets done or works, because they're just executing the Boss' vision. 🤑

@Wearwolf I have been known to phrase it as "this is a dumb idea, I have told you it's a dumb idea, and now I will go execute your dumb idea to the best of my ability."

@anyGould or as my boss seems to be doing "of course I will sacrifice my professional pride in order to try to make your idea a reality "
