    @fathermucker - Cheers. I can't do much, but I can do what I can as I can.

@tinker Nice! Thanks. That would be for one of our more IT folk. I'm the sewing gal πŸ˜„ @tansy @RepairCafeFFX

@artcollisions @tansy @RepairCafeFFX - Ohhh... you do actual good things - not made up things living in a land of fake 1s and 0s, hahaha!

You're awesome! Thank you for doing that!

@tinker thank you! Those little 1s and 0s are slippery beasts. I cannot keep track of them! I'm much better with things I can hold in my hands.

@artcollisions - I feel that. To your points, I need to use my hands. I have a love affair for purely mechanical systems (bicycles, spring loaded music boxes, etc). In a past life, I would have loved to have been a watch maker / repairer.

          I just love to tinker.

The slippery 1s and 0s are goofy though.. i like hacking them... they're so slippery you can make them slide however you like.

It's all made up. None of it's real. Real consequences, sure, but they're just figments of everyone's collective imaginations.

Anyhoo. Sewing is where it's at. I stand in awe.

Oh! We had a couple sewers... seamsters..stresses... I don't know words. But we had folks who could handle fabric at our cafe today! So cool.

@tinker Oh, I get it! I wish I could make my brain interested in coding, but meh. I did buy myself an embroidery module with a new machine a couple years ago and this year, I pinky promise, is the year I'm going to design my own embroidery for something.

I think all creative pursuits are worthwhile! Even the slippery ones πŸ˜„ My husband is a mathematician and he does woodworking too. Balance is good!

@tansy @tinker we are going to do a sewing machine demo at @RepairCafeFFX (next month)?

Great idea to add Linux installs, if people at the cafe's can support them!

@artcollisions @tansy @tinker Next month we're having a "common-sense cybersecurity + Windows 10 end of support" workshop, which will include an intro to Linux! I'd like to do more with Linux in the future, it's always been on our radar, but yeah, March is the tech workshop, we will probably do the sewing machine one April or later.

At my library's repair cafe as a volunteer.

It's the first time they're running it and they're hoping to do this regularly.

I came in thinking I would help with computer troubleshooting... but they have enough people doing that.

So I figured I could help with Linux OS install... but the local Linux Install Party is here and has enough people.

Then a guy brought in a bicycle! And no one is here doing bike repair. But I brought my allen wrench set and a multitool.

So I just got done running and installing a new bicycle brake line on an older bike. Brake works just fine now!

I'll bring my full set of bike tools next time!

@tinker I do this here in Auckland, it feels like a typical session is 45% vacuum cleaners, 45% toasters and 10% anything else, although in reality it is 33, 33, 33. Lately there have been a lot more rice cookers.

@artcollisions - Same. I have a good friend who sews and knits (does both, specifically) and takes patterns and makes whole outfits, dresses, tops, etc. Knits socks, and blankets. Made me a knit cap for winter and a set of combination gloves/mittens as well. Just blows my mind.

But what Fedi really wants to know:

Were you able to install Linux onto the bicycle?

                                      Beautiful scene!!!

@RepairCafeFFX Oooh, I thought sewing machine demo was in March. I think I have a conflict in April 😞

@artcollisions That's ok! We can push it out further than April, not to worry. March is the first demo, but the first demo is the Win10 one, since the TJ librarians requested that specifically. Sorry for the confusion

We will find an event that works for your schedule - the info will still be valuable even beyond March. Believe it or not we got ANOTHER sewing machine on Sunday!
