@rommix0 I don't blame ya.

@Bri @alexchapman I second this. I'm in my thirties now, and I worry about what will happen if I stay stuck in a hospitality job that doesn't pay well. Gotta start somewhere.
-
@Bri @rommix0 Well, it does if you give it time. And there's other ways to make money, I've seen hybrid solutions where the software people do is open source and the server that the software runs on has premium access, and if people want full access they selfhost if they don't wanna pay up, but there's a lot of people out there that would pay to support a project like that.
@alexchapman @rommix0 unfortunately mate, I don't have time. I'd much rather work toward something I know will make me money more likely than not rather than continue sitting here and begging people for donations and getting diddley squat.

@Bri @alexchapman yeah. I feel you on that one.

@alexchapman @rommix0 You can be there for your users and not screw them over while still maintaining a closed source paid product. It's not as black and white as you make it out to be.

@alexchapman @rommix0 If you can make money some other way while still having time to maintain open source projects, good on you. Some of us don't have that luxury.
-
@alexchapman @Bri not necessarily screwing them over. I'd feel more screwed over in not being recognized for my accomplishment. I'm not a stranger to people underestimating me in pretty much every way. I'm getting sick of it.

@Bri @rommix0 But because of how people have been screwed over time and time again with closed source shit, they would rather things be what's called freemium open source, where the paid service involves functionality on the server end that would cost, rather than a full on closed source paid only product.

@alexchapman @rommix0 I know plenty of people who would be more than happy to pay for the things I create and don't give a shit if it's open source or not. Try again.

@alexchapman @rommix0 anyway it's clear I won't change your mind. I'm not entirely sure why I engaged anyway. Goodnight.

@alexchapman @Bri yeah hardly. Been on and off here since late 2024, and it only seems to get worse the more people get to know the real me. They've never respected the real me.

@alexchapman @Bri I don't feel it tbh. It feels superficial. Most of social media does.

@spacepup @alexchapman @Bri I appreciate that you do. I really do. With the way social media is, it doesn't always feel like that.
