Okay fine, since I'm using Terminal, time to restart NVDA.
Five minutes later: Oh crap I set focus to the terminal again when it's busy so time to restart NVDA again.
Y'all if I can get Steam and the accessibility mods working and talking on Linux, I'm about ready to give up Windows completely even on my home computer. Ugh. Like damn y'all it's just a freaking terminal.
@pixelate I know right?
Linux audio stack might be horrible but at least it doesn't crash just because the terminal is busy. Or rather, it *can* crash espeakup, but it's at least rare, compared to nvda.

@xogium And if Orca crashes, now it's got systemd so it'll restart.

@pixelate Has it?
Hmm. Since when is orca ran as a systemd unit? Interesting.
I hope they've done the right thing here, sd_notify support, periodic ping to the watchdog, all that stuff.

@xogium I think it's been a good six months.

@pixelate I just checked the one on arch. Very good owrk indeed. Not bad at all.
The absolute irony though is that orca still has trouble with handling terminal apps, far as I'm aware.

@xogium Dialog yeah, like in audio game manager. But for stuff like codex cli it's fine.

@pixelate Nano is horrible, irssi is horrible, menuconfig type of dialog in buildroot or kernel config is horrible. Nano it'll start fine then past a certain number of lines... It'll just stop talking. Wonderful.

@xogium Oh, wow, I've not really used Nano or Irssi. I use Emacs and Pidgin.

@pixelate Yeah. This is all thanks to VTE based terminal of course. VTE keeps refusing to acknowledge that there are bugs, orca keeps telling them there are bugs, VTE sends the ball back to orca and the cycle repeats. It's been like that for years. Truely pathetic. Turned into a game of who's wrong and who's right and both parties do nothing to fix.

@pixelate Were you able to run the graphical interface you work with by reading things directly from Android?

@pixelate That terminal fuckery has been present for ages in linux. So long in fact that when I came to linux 11 years ago, it was already there.

@diegomatos16 Huh? In Termux? Yeah.

@xogium I don't doubt it.

@pixelate Is it very difficult? My experiences with Linux haven't been successful; even with VMs, I always stumbled over something, even using Gemini.

@diegomatos16 I mean you can download an AI agent like Claude Code or Codex into Termux, and have it do it for you. That's what I did. Just tell it what you want and be parepared to test and try again and again.

@pixelate I'll try it here. Would it cause a problem because Termux can't access it using termux-setup-storage?

@diegomatos16 Mmm, shouldn't cause any issues since it's all inside Termux. termux-setup-storage just gives Termux access to the rest of your phone.

@alexchapman @pixelate This seems to be something which affects some users more than others. There was a recent conversation here where there were a couple of suggestions made which may help? https://fosstodon.org/deck/@TheQuinbox@dragonscave.space/116054154984063241
