    Since we live in an area with a lot of elderly people maybe I should start a tech help service πŸ€”

    "Nerd At Home" or something, like the student one but better and cheaper!

    Question however.. how do we reach such people, paper perhaps?

      @stux Ik weet niet of briefjes in de supermarkt nog een ding zijn, maar dat lijkt me ook nog een optie.

        @stux Visit in person. Once 1-2 people know your service, word spreads fast. But be aware: while a great service, the effort to money payment ratio in this business is low. However the effort / good memories ratio is very high.

          @stux @McHollander Seniors come in all kinds (when it comes to money). I didn’t set out to make money when I started volunteering with seniors, but some feel better paying me, so I don’t say no.

              @stux Mooi initiatief. Ik las dit artikel kortgeleden, is misschien ook in jouw nieuwe buurt https://dvhn.nl/groningen/alle-ouderen-in-de-groningse-thuiskamer-wonen-op-zichzelf.-gezelligheid-vinden-ze-bij-elkaar-elke-week-48951152.html Sommigen zijn voor iedereen te bezoeken, dus misschien even je neus laten zien is genoeg. Zoek naar "huiskamer" of "thuiskamer".

                @stux

                i connected with a local nonprofit (called vicap). their primary mission was providing transportation for the elderly, but they also offered handyman services & technology assistance.

                met some very cool people, including a very butch, retired army staff seargent and her wife. she served during the don't-ask-don't-tell era and they had to navigate all of that as a couple. they were one of the first to get married when it became legal to do so.

                she called vicap because she needed help putting up xmas lights.

                    @stux Yes paper in large print 😹
                    Also radio, and if need be megaphone and a parade down the street 😹
                    Parade could include kids with wagons decked out in ribbons and stuffed animals, small flags and flyers to hand out 😹

                      Facebook, even the most inept old person is on there somehow (probably because they are inept otherwise they would make smarter SM-choices).
                      You can do humanity a big ass favor und start your helping sessions by deleting the acc and the app from their devices so they can start detoxing from that pile of crap

                        @stux When I did this, I advertised in the local phone book, as a lot of elderly people go there first still. I also offered group workshops at a local community centre for online safety. Assisted living homes are also a good place to drop off cards

                          @stux free workshops in your local library and community center and for longer support they can call you if you offer a reasonable price.
