@emsquared ... Oh. Loving my A80. Would be out more but the forecast is still rain for the next week. In case the A80 fails completely, I have another on the way. I'm a lost cause.

@keithdevereux Yeah. The A60 could only take those glitch pics for a while before it became a swirly mess with no image of any kind recorded.

@emsquared ... A swirly mess? Sounds great! A couple of mine were ... 'indistinct'.

@keithdevereux Ha. I was not best impressed back when my CCD failed back then. Coloured my opinion of Canon and stayed the hell away from them until I later relented and bought an S3 and guess what? The shutter locked shut (another common problem).

@emsquared ... Jeez. That's tough. Always liked Canon, though my digital of choice are Olympus micro four-thirds nowadays (or the Panasonic GF1. Love that beastie).

@keithdevereux I think because of my previous video experience I've always been in the Sony camp but get the Canon perspective and was always intrigued by Olympus offerings.
I've come late to my appreciation of Pentax.

@emsquared ... Never actually had a Pentax apart from a super zoom that makes a terrible grinding noise when it zooms and the lenses for the Auto 110 (that I like to use with micro four-thirds). Actually got a non-functioning body that I hope I can get working at some point.

@emsquared ... Video-wise I have a Panasonic Lumix AVCCAM AG-AF101E video camera that is far too much for me but it was so cheap I couldn't refuse. Takes micro four-thirds lenses, too. (Also a Vu_ssy circuit bent camera from Freedom Enterprises that I intend to use for glitching. A slow burning project, mind).

@keithdevereux I have a few older blackmagic cameras but have been pretty consistently Sony. Nikon's offering intrigues. I have a *lot* of older Sony CCD DSLR's. Just adaft. I was a big Minolta film user so once Sony bought them it was an easy transition. LOVE the older Sony digicams but some are daft prices 2nd hand (the quirky prosumer ones F757 etc)

Back in 2003, Canon released the Powershot A80, a 4MP prosumer digital camera. A lot of them were prone to sensor failure, to the point where Canon would replace the sensor free of charge, even outside the warranty period. I was unaware of all this until a couple of weeks ago when I came across a short YouTube video. Of course, I had to get one, and fortunately some are still available.
                    Isn't it lovely?

@keithdevereux @emsquared The only Pentax I've ever had is the first generation Pentax Q, which I really liked a lot. I actually bought two, one white one black, because our local Asda had a black Q in quite cheap for some reason, but that black one started corrupting images stored on card, I could swap cards with the other one and it'd do the same, it wasn't the card it was the body. I also had a fair few of the Q lenses, which were good, even the 'toy' ones. You’d never know it was a small sensor cam, it was shooting just the same images as any other mirrorless at the time. In the end I got shot of the whole kit at a time I had too many cameras and wanted to settle on one, so I. swapped it (along with other things) for a used first gen Sony RX10, which was very good (currently lent out to family member to lose in packing boxes of their house move).

At the time I got the Q I'd also got the Fujifilm X10, and the two sort of competed to me, but the fuji always had focusing problems (because fuji) and it got sent back and returned 'fixed' but the same etc. At one point early on I was changing the battery (small battery, same as the Pentax Q funnily enough but different number, shame they don't USB charge) and the camera rolled off the bed onto the floor with the battery door open which knackered the hinge so it has to be 'lifted out' and set in an open position then 'put back' all the while the remains of the plastic hinge are dissolving each time. Ultimately I lent it to another family member and they lost it in a drawer for years, I retrieved it a few years ago and it still misfocused but worse, then a few months ago I took my rocket blower brush to it and thoroughly blew into every crook and nanny and now it's actually working better than it ever did.

I keep thinking in recent weeks, Fuji should stop dicking around with stupidity such as the X-half, and just do a rerelease of the X10/20 and update it to better battery and USB-C charging but just leave the rest of it alone, just rerelease it, it'd sell loads.

@u0421793 @keithdevereux Oh I agree with the X Half and that daft retro mini evo thing. The Q was a great camera and the smaller sensor doesn't matter. If they bought it back now it'd sell like hot cakes. Pentax are a quirky little company (rember the 110 slr from the film days). Their DSLR's have lots of bespoke settings and the Pentax 17 half frame was a bold move to make a film camera again.
