@mvsde to be fair, in the age of DDoS by AI and rising hosting costs, quite a lot of the boring internet is also dying.
although i guess dying gives the wrong implication. it's being killed. -

@mvsde i want to learn about these things. I don't know how to use them or what all of these abbreviations even are. I'd love to communicate over these kinds of channels more. Love to learn how to find stuff, find community , find content there.
but it always seemed to me like it was a domain of tech people. Can you point me to a resource written for non techs? Practical?@Tamtam I have to admit I myself am also not really part of these “old-style” social networks (IRC, mailing lists, etc).
But I think being on Mastodon as part of the Fediverse is already an incredibly big step towards keeping the open non-corporate web alive.

@mvsde i guess it's like with di- day. tech -people can rant all they want about stuff, but unless they actually take the trouble to make things accessible and share knowledge it's all just talking..Like they don't really expect any non -tech person to actually be interested and don't actually anticipate for change to be happening.

@mvsde I'm am glad that with initiatives like Di-day all the ranting is starting to actually bear some consequences.

although i guess dying gives the wrong implication. it's being killed.@Yuvalne @mvsde yeah, I'm not sure where LWN getting DDoS'd regularly helps the boring net survive. Or how eyes being diverted to plagiarised copies of the stuff people go out of their way to create helps build communities of interest, (for fun or profit).
I appreciate the sentiment of the post, but I've never given two F's about the death of facebook of twiiter. Stuff moves on, it was always inevitable. But the death of search will kill independent community creation. -
