@openrightsgroup On one hand, the sheer number of people that cannot create an account in a service I maintain because they don't know how to use email is huge! "Check the spam folder!" isn't enough, some people have their inbox full.
Turns out that it's better for Google to charge for inbox space, who guessed? They create an issue — limited storage — and solutions — social login and Google One — while not providing proper solutions — like a good email cleaning tool.
On the other hand, we are in Mastodon, most people here know tech quite well, I hope people here don't have those issues. -

@openrightsgroup Use an email client (app) that lets you create aliases. My email client (aka, app is Proton.me.) It changes my real address to something like "randomsite.goobledygook123654.com." The random site name tells me where it came from and the rest is just a disguise. It ends up in my real email inbox. When I no longer need it, that address is deleted and emails no longer come to me.

@openrightsgroup Because the internet has become such a big mess, users have no choice but to create fake accounts because otherwise they get screwed over by creeps like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Meta, etc.
Just use an alias mail address. And if a website ask for your mobile number for verification, don't use that website.
Just use passwords larger than 12 character/numbers and change them every 3 months. Keep a paper password bible.
