      @bagder
      Not necessarily science in general:

      "__We support the open source infrastructure for data-intensive research and AI-driven discovery__

      By pooling capital across the philanthropic, public, and industry sectors, the Open Source for Science Fund backs the development, maintenance, and evolution of open technology that powers science and the new era of AI-driven discovery."

          @bagder They talk a big game about Open Source. But look at the walled garden "cabbage patch" at the bottom: #LinkedIn, #Bluesky, and #X. Why can't they manage a #Mastodon account, or something #OpenSource like that?

            @bagder Came for the Open Source funding, left for the Zuckerberg "I just changed my residence from California to Florida to avoid a tiny amount of taxes" founders 😑

                  @bagder As soon as money became involved, FOSS needed more prevention from corruption but 'the community' didn't get that in place in time because that work isn't fun. The injection of more money will need more risk mitigation which will slower FOSS progress and less value out. "More eyeballs" aren't enough to fight AI armies under the control of authoritarian states and corporations. The battle to control Freedom is already underway.

                  Complexity favours the wealthy, in any market.
