The AI revolution is global and Europe is deepening cooperation with trusted partners around the world.
In New Delhi at the AI Impact Summit, I met with Ministers, CEOs and leading experts from across the world to discuss how we can turn AI’s transformative power into shared progress.
AI is no longer just a technology. It is a driver of competitiveness, security and global influence.
Together, we’re ensuring that AI remains innovative, competitive and aligned with our democratic values.

@HennaVirkkunen As someone working in technology, I find the AI hype is driving a lot of things. Almost all (I’m being kind throwing in the “almost” there) of them bad. And the language model-based technologies themselves are nowhere near worth all the resources poured into them. Can we spend some EU energy building better things instead?

@HennaVirkkunen please educate yourself on the actual technology behind the hype.
There have been no major advancements in "AI" in the past 10 years, only chatbots that provide answers to the same accuracy as a coinflip.

It's as if politicians around the world just discovered the magic 8 ball, and collectively decided it's going to change the world.

Sadly a lot of wealthy leeches are spending big bucks on keeping our decision makers uneducated.

@joykill AI advancing a ton all the time, I don't get what do you (and others) try to do with such super weird comments about no advancement?

️Certainly were was amazing advancement, and its very bad. Too much dangerous advancement too fast.
Fediversians are so AI sceptical, yet I seen fediverse poll, where great majority of people on the network have not used this tech to begin with, yet talk about education of others.
As we vastly disagree on basic stuff, I won't argue much, but just wanted to express my wonder and opinion that denial is weird and aren't helpful to solve AI problem. Maybe consider subscribing to @n_dimension who is also critical on AI denial like me, but unlike me, I seen he does not mind arguing, and also is AI expert seems to me writing on it often.

@mindaugas @HennaVirkkunen if you want to genuinely learn more about why "AI" is criticized so strongly, take a look at the mystery ai hype theater 3000 https://www.dair-institute.org/maiht3k/ or @emilymbender et al in general. The criticism is not only that it doesn't work as claimed by tech bros. But beyond that it is very very harmful in a multitude of ways to society and the humans living in it.

I did not look at the link (yet), but with your particular claims I could agree with. Especially with its "very very harmful" part.Like example of manipulation by AI bots and big tech (they collect vasts amout of most initimate data (personal psychology), and plans to show advertisements to people, hopefully not political manipulation yet).
In general, if someone is trying to convice decision maker like EC vice president, claims have to be more solid and based in fact, rather than which differs with reality like pretending AI did not vastly improved in (close to) all areas during last decade.
I will skip listing those capabilities to not scare too much, but if not afraid, then suggest looking up latest chinese humanoids (which combine wide array of superb AI capabilities into one machine), some robots have such amazing capabilities beyond what anyone imagined possible.
So, dear EC vice president, I am scared of these machines, so please don't deploy them in Europe, because it can get out of control if being not careful.

@HennaVirkkunen Yes, make sure we are on the band wagon.....
After all, we can't miss out on the rat race to the mostly demise of GenAI as we know the whole hype now.How is our digital autonomy and sovereignty going?
Is our vital data already safe outcof the hands of Big (US) Tech?
Can Europe already evade chaos if America pulls the plug on our services with MS, AWS, Google, Citrix, etc? -

If you want to learn about why #aisceptic increasingly sound like they are not paying attention and snorting their own hype, please do listen to "Mystery AI Hype Theater 3000"!
70+ episodes of the same formula: read article, be snarky, reassert the framework. They set out to deflate AI hype and raise real concerns about real harms, but advocacy cosplaying as inquiry isn't analysis. There is never a single "but akchuly" moment. And it's the worst kind of advocacy, useless "memetic" activism, rather than concrete #regulateai
The AI-sceptic ecosystem has its own hype cycle, its own audience capture (Doctorow) , and its own blind spots.
And with each passing day, the mythology build by #aiantagonists is increasingly disconnected from reality, because when everyone refuses to keep up, everyone is right.

@mindaugas @HennaVirkkunen they wrote various scientific papers about the harms and limitations. They have the scientific rigour, and in contrast to the tech companies they do not have the conflict of interest. So if podcasts are not your thing, start with stochastic parrots paper and go from there.

No, no, please, do educate yourself on the actual technology behind the hype, that would be a good idea.
"There have been no major advancements in "AI" in the past 10 years", do you know any other entities that stand accused of being 'confidently incorrect'?
Look in the mirror
1. Arguably, one of the most influential papers of last couple of decades
Transformers: "Attention Is All You Need" (2017)
Every AI you've used since: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot runs on this paper.2. AlphaFold 2: Protein Structure Prediction
Solved a 50-year-old problem in biology. Not "made progress on"; solved. Every protein whose structure once took a PhD student years to determine can now be predicted in minutes. The entire scientific community stopped arguing about whether AI was useful. In the same family, AlphaZero which MASTERS every game just by playing itself."only chatbots that provide answers to the same accuracy as a coinflip", I've left the best till last, just to demonstrate your "AI knowledge" fossilized sometime around 2023, which in terms of AI
rapid progres
is the 17th century.3. Energy-Based Reasoning Models (This Stochiastic parrot is dead, it's pining for the fjords!)
Models like Kona from Logical Intelligence don't predict the next word: they map entire solution spaces and find MATHEMATICALLY provably correct answers. There is more, but I suspect I'm already on your blocklist
