UK, welcome back to Erasmus+ πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

The EU and the United Kingdom sealed the deal to bring the UK back into Erasmus+ from 2027.

We are rebuilding opportunities for the next generation to study, work and grow together, giving people the chance to connect across borders once again.

It will also help create and deepen partnerships between our academic institutions.

Together again through learning, exchange and connection 🀝

@EUCommission As a general matter, the EU should follow a strict anti-cake policy. But Erasmus participation isn’t cake. It doesn’t require EU or even EEA membership, and UK students should not be penalized for the belligerent stupidity of their Brexiteer grandparents.

@EUCommission hi, I want to ask how will you address trans people who want to participate in the Erasmus+ program, specially on universities and vocational training academies coming from trans-accepting countries (like Spain)?

I don't think people want to be excluded from participating into the program, or suffering consequences because measures were not taken. We, as trans people, may suffer different kind of discrimination in UK, even in a legal frame.

Some trans people undergoing HRT but who did not change data yet may suffer discrimination there, and even so, those who changed the data may be subject to special screening or misclassified, or directly excluded from going to certain spaces, even if it was accepted in their home countries.

That being said, it will be worse when taking into account the healthcare protections, or even security in the place. I would like a document specifying the procedure without letting this to be dealt at university/academies level, because let's say the truth, it will just finish in trans people being excluded to avoid the Β«issuesΒ» and the legal charge.

If there will be nothing to cover this, I prefer UK not being integrated back into the Erasmus+ program or any other program which implies the participation of EU-citizens, specially students and specially taking into account that some may be even underage trans people (16-17 yo usually participate in this program in the university or academies I studied at).

As an EU citizen, and coming from Eastern Europe, I find it hard to find any sympathy for the English after all the vitriol and contempt they've treated us with.

I don't welcome these news. The UK wants to be an island unto its own. Let them.
