    I just found a queen ant on my desk. She must have come in from outside, she's not from any of the ants that I already keep. Her plan was to live under my keyboard, but she's in a test tube now and will be a pet.

    I have this bad feeling ants are passing around tips about "a place where you can go where this human will set you up"

    @futurebird

    I totally believe that's the case.

          It's also possible she was attracted to my large healthy captive colonies. I wonder if queens look for that.

          I found her wings! She flew in the window and broke them off.

          I've been searching my apartment, since if you find one queen ant there are often more. But, I can't find any more random ants, so this one queen just ... flew up to the 6th floor, came in over the AC and set up on my desk.

          I am willing to admit I may find more ants than most people since I notice them more. However I still think this is a bit wild.

            Last year a queen ant landed on me when I was waiting for the bus on Park Ave.

            I still have her. Lovely colony.

              @futurebird in your place I'd start looking for supernatural explanations but I am ridiculously lenient towards superstitions

                @futurebird do you have special ant attraction powers?

                    @futurebird That's cool as hell! I'm going to look at some pictures because, right now, I'm not even sure I'd recognize a queen ant as anything other than a bug.

                            @futurebird the question is, how are they getting the word out about you? Have you inspected your windowsills for tiny semaphore towers lately?

                              This is possible, however she isn't that kind of species. Just a girl on her own trying to make it in the big city.

                              Made me think of this.
                              I picture the ant queen tossing her wings in the air.
