Also, join the union _before_ you have problems with work, because some unions require you to be in the union for a short while (~6 months?) before offering you full support.

Yep I support unions and have held membership in four throughout my work life. I hate to say it though, but the union I was most involved with didn't do squat for me when I was suspended for 9 days. Not a damn thing

@CaymanPilot sorry to hear that... I know they're not silver bullets, and I know some had quite bad experience with theirs. But many can be very helpful in some common-ish situations...
