Over a year into seriously job-hunting and it is miserable. I remain stubbornly a generalist #SoftwareEngineer with #Infra background, both close-to-hardware systems and web #DevOps #SRE work. Need US remote or #PDX local, no AI or blockchain.

There doesn't seem to be a consensus on whether #FediHire, #FediHired, or #GetFediHired is the hashtag, so I'll use them all to say: please help me find a job so I can pay the mortgage on my queer misfit den and otherwise provide for myself and my family.

@spacelogic I wish you great success! I have a dream to create some kind of cooperative of folks who want to build things for people the “old fashioned way”. At first glance you and I have a similar mission (I resonate with “maybe help to fix the problems I was coming to realize society hadn't figured out“). If a thing like that is interesting let me know.

If not, glad to have found you anyway!

@firepoet Hi! Very nice to meet you. I've thought about something similar myself, especially since there seem to be a lot of skilled people who are either not able or not willing to participate in the Industry. I lack the organizing experience (and, truly, the people skills) to spearhead such a venture, but I'd be very happy to *help* start one!

@spacelogic What sites do you use to look for jobs? I'm in a similar situation, having been looking for work for 5 years. I've pretty much given up on linkedin, indeed and others. Any recommendations?

@tito_swineflu Someone I know swears by setting up Google alerts for the job titles you want on lever.co, myworkdayjobs.com, and greenhouse.io, as a lot of companies post to those boards first. So, as much as I hated to go to Google, I've done that recently; no luck yet. I'm also still trawling LinkedIn, Indeed, and Wellfound.com, and I have a profile I periodically renew on Underdog.io.

With all that, it feels like referrals are almost necessary to actually get interviewed, nowadays....

@spacelogic at the beginning of my five year search, I got tons of interviews, but they all thought i was too old. Now, it's definitely only via referral that i get interviews, but i'm still too old.
