The moment I got tears in my eyes was walking alongside thousands of others in the middle of one of the busiest streets in the city. A wave of complex emotions washed over me — anger, sadness, pride, hope, gratitude, plus a little fear, anxiety, and loneliness too — thinking about why we were all out there on the streets marching, carrying signs, waving flags, chanting, singing, and loudly (but peacefully) protesting our own government gone bad. It sank in that this was a moment of important history in the making. Millions of people taking to the streets in every US state to decry their corrupt government is not an everyday occurrence. Though I wish we didn’t have to do this, it’s good that we are out there doing something, and I’m glad that I participated. I’m also grateful that there are millions of people around the world who feel the same. Thank you to everyone who joined the protests in the US and around the world in whatever capacity you could. I heard your voices in my heart.
