      @Natasha_Jay I often think of these two pictures from Wallsend, taken by Chris Killip six years apart - the first from the time when Swan, Hunter was building those huge tankers, and the second from after the tanker business had left.

            @RolloTreadway @Natasha_Jay There's a permanent exhibition at the Laing Gallery of Chris Killip's photographs of ships built on the Tyne, and the workers and their communities - many with the ships looming over the houses, dwarfing the people. He donated them back in 2019. I always pop into that when I go to the Laing.

                  I remember as a kid being taken to see Esso Northumbria leave the river in 1970 was a party atmosphere. Seems like a different world now
