I'm having an initial meeting with a pain psychologist this Friday from my pain clinic. For the first time, I have no idea how to mentally prepare for this appointment.
Being an AuDHDer, I need to prescript all interactions to not feel overwhelmed or do a deer-in-the -headlights that will waste everyone's time.
Can anyone recommend questions to bring up or topics to discuss, or websites that might have same? I tried web searching, but don't think I hit upon the right keywords for DuckDuckGo.
Thanks!

@AncTreat5358 what does a pain psychologist do? I'd say the interactions between pain and psyche. So the way you feel and think about your pain as well as the way your pain reacts to what you feel and think.
So questions could be about how to deal with the pain. How to implement the things you know to be helpful. How to keep heart when the pain is overwhelming. How to deal with people who don't understand. They will probably ask about what you want to get out of the treatment.

@mees Thank you, Mees! This is very helpful!
I'm being referred because traditional meds for my type of chronic pain do not work. So we are looking to address pain in a non-medication sense (kind of a holistic approach, I think).

My go to is Wikipedia. I know an awful lot of people do not rate it (and it does have issues) but you may get some good links to primary sources, which in turn can give you ideas to pre-prepare.

@AncTreat5358 oh that's awful, traditional meds not working. I feel for you.
The holistic approach can be very helpful. With the way our minds and bodies operate from within the same vessel, there definitely are interactions that can be used to improve. I hope it will work well for you. Do take care that you don't feel guilty for having pain. You can influence it, but it is not your fault.
(My girlfriend has chronic pain, I have some experience unfortunately. The guilt is a part we could definitely do without.)

@alexadeswift Great idea Alexa! I use Wikipedia all the time, but didn't think it would have this particular question answered. I'll give it a go.

@mees Thank you for your kind words and thoughts, Mees.
I appreciate your take on a holistic stance for chronic pain. Traditionally I've been more of a science-based person, but am recognizing as I age there may be more to the world than that.
Sorry to hear that your girlfriend also experiences chronic pain. I hope you are able to support or uplift her where you can in a way that doesn't drain you.
