There are intricate systems in languages. It's a great loss to utilize these systems without understanding them. It feels like having a latin bible verse read before an english sermon. How will you know when the priests are selling you indulgences?

@davidnjoku Errors, privacy concerns (both providers and governments), deskilling humans/myself, and all of the reasons above.

I also worry Tech Bros will make us all dependent, kill off alternatives, then start ramping up the cost/privacy issues and basically have control over our lives which I don't want to agree to.

@davidnjoku All of the above, as others have said, but for me it's mostly the middle two. The harm it does is not outweighed by any good that might come from it, and I haven't seen any significant good come from it yet anyway.

@minego @davidnjoku This is a great point. There are few pleasures that equal working on a poem or an essay and finally getting it exactly right, expressing the thing I wanted to express. I've spent most of my life writing, badly and then less badly and then well, to be able to do this. AI takes that whole journey away, which is what some people want, but the process is the best part for me. AI also doesn't produce good writing, but even if it did, it would still make for a joyless experience.

All of the above. But the harm to people alone is the biggest reason. It is exploitative, dangerous, and unpredictable.
