If you have a Ring (Amazon) camera, you are -- or will become -- a tool of the surveillance state. Is that really what you want to be?

@dangillmor if ICE isn’t using this yet they will.
Police use it, just listen to the scanners.

@PamelaBarroway @dangillmor Smart move! In fact, we need to go back to the days where everything was stored locally as oppose to depending on companies to collect, store our data for exploitation.

Just keep things safe and simple. That and it will also cut down on all the electricity that gets wasted too.

@Shredd_Tone @PamelaBarroway @dangillmor you are right. It seems like people forgot that cloud is just a fancy name for storing data on someone's computer

@dangillmor this is why we have security cameras running Thingino, which is open source and not beholden to corporate interests or misuse.

@dangillmor If it’s on WiFi, the data passes through a number of servers and is “stored” somewhere, even if “temporarily”.
And that’s probably obscured in the long fine-print agreement you acknowledged before activating the camera.

@dangillmor just call them what they are:

IF YOU HAVE A RING DOORBELL YOU'RE A TIMID, PARANOID TOOL.
