Hey friends, if you are attempting to access the new federal dental program in Canada there is one major caveat that massively affects low income families.
The federal program provides coverage for procedures based on a federal rate schedule, however dentists can charge based on a provincial rate schedule which fluctuates wildly between provinces.
My friend sent her kiddo in for dental care believing it was covered, which is what we have been told, but when she went to pick them up they charged them for the difference between the rates which came to $400 over what was covered by the federal plan. They are gutted. $400 out of thin air for a low income family is villainy. That's basically an entire monthly food budget.
Proceed with extreme caution and write your MPs. No one with low income can afford to access this program.
