Question for my friends in the #eu that work in #tech: which domain registrar and #webhosting / #vps providers would you recommend? I'm wanting to migrate my projects and clients away from #bigtech in the US. I'm currently using #namecheap for domains and #digitalocean for hosting.
Thank you for any input you may have!

@oddpixel I am using Krystal from the States specifically so I can put my data in the Netherlands, far from my own fascist government.

@mossyfoot Hey, a fellow Oregonian! Howdy neighbor!
Thanks for this lead. I see it supports Let's Encrypt and SSH connections. Domain tld's seem a little short though.. maybe I'm missing something..

@oddpixel I would be surprised if you can't bring your own domain over from whatever registrar you already have.

@mossyfoot Right, that won't be a problem (I think?), but registering new ones is the key at this point.
Ah, found a definitive answer on that: https://krystal.io/domains
It is a bit of a short list. But that's ok, I can still find another registrar across the pond to make it work.

@oddpixel yes, pointing the domain at your site will just be some DNS work.

Hetzner is pretty good (if you don’t host nude images, their ToS is a little spicy), you can get a decent spec server off of their server auction site for the same price as a handful of DO vpses.
A little more expensive but reliable there is 1984.is in Iceland (rather nice publishing privacy laws too).
Ouvaton is a French coop that hosts too

Domains, avoid anything owned by TWS (Gandi), but Netim and infomaniak are good. 123reg is a classic in the UK. The list is a little huge as there are a lot of options around here. If you have a .com, .net, .org (or a gTLD owned by a US entity) honestly it doesn’t matter who your registrar is since they’re subject to US law and your risk profile doesn’t change much

@mossyfoot Yup, same as it's ever been lol

@oddpixel For domains joker.com has served me for longer than an average trainee has been on this earth and they've done the trick. It's a German company.
