Please keep the folks of Tumbler Ridge in your thoughts. Not only are they dealing with unimaginable grief and shock, but now that the shooter has been identified as 18-year-old female Jesse Van Rootsleaar, a trans person, the small northeast BC community is going to become a lightning-rod for every right-wing ideologue and grifter all the way up to the Orange One himself.

Which is the last thing this town needs as they process their grief and try to heal. πŸ’”

Oh no. πŸ™„ Now watch stupid conservative "news" jump on their soap box and abuse this as anti-trans messaging- perhaps not directly here in Canada, but I'll bet Smith, PP etc soon start up with some as****e rhetoric.

@SnowyCA @crispius I heard the live update about 90 minutes ago. There were multiple calls to the residence, mostly mental health related. She quit school a few years ago. Sounds to me like the system failed her miserably.

"They" will ignore that but we won't.

My thoughts exactly. At a time when the RW is already attacking trans people for simply existing. My heart hurts today.

Tell her this is Not how we treat our Canadian family members. What she should be saying is our country needs to be supportive of trans people. @SnowyCA The mental health system is in a shambles, but kids seem to be getting hit particularly hard.

I wonder if it's because western society really doesn't value kids. Gaza, Congo, Sudan, Epstein. I dunno. It might have to be a grassroots effort. Again.

We do not have a mental healthcare system, we have a "oh you are in crisis? Here's a prescription that will numb your mind so badly you will be disabled, have to quit work, and will be shunned by everyone", system.

edit: We simply value lower taxes more than our communities.
