The real magic of the internet lies in the open protocols.
Community-owned technical contracts that ensure free communication and interoperability. The innovative groups of volunteers and professionals that work together to solve problems and improve on the old.
IPv4/6, WWW, DNS, HTTP. SMTP, IMAP, SCIM, OAuth, ActivityPub, SIP, XMPP and many many more.
Open #protocols are the antithesis to #enshittification and walled gardens.

@kfh And open file formats. Those two have been historically the main battle grounds for interoperability. Open file formats seem less important now, because everything reads HTML and PNG, but... OOXML is very much alive and claiming to be an open standard in extremely bad faith. (HTML is not really that open either, since there is only one program which reads it and the standard is a captured «living document».)
