Does AI use mean less web traffic for museums?
There are many ways to approach this, but here I've mapped the ratio of web visits at smk.dk to physical museum visits. If guests get info elsewhere, this ratio should change (i.e. fewer web visits per physical visit). I'm pretty sure that must be happening but currently the effect isn't strong enough to be clearly visible. We'll follow these numbers closely 🔎

@jonassmith A key angle missing is that AI-generated summaries often cite museum websites themselves, meaning some "lost" traffic might actually be redistributed through AI platforms rather than disappearing entirely.

@hannaB absolutely. It’s not necessarily a real problem short term but let’s just say that intermediaries between you and your user is 100% bound to become a problem down the line.

@jonassmith Right, because once those intermediaries control the relationship, they can also control the narrative-and the data.
