@mntmn "Russ" was an ASU stufent in the oshpark channel on freenode years ago showing off a full sized pcie card ssd he was working on with a virtex6 and a bunch of onfi nands for his masters thesis. Unsure if he ever published any rtl/layout and if it was nvme or a custom protocol stack

@mntmn well, had such a thought recently, to make a physical NVMe-oF (or even Ceph RBD) adapter using a PCIe endpoint capable SoC.
Should be quite doable to make an NVMe to e.g. UFS adapter using something like that. Unlikely to be very performant, but all the code should already be there in Linux

Very far from a usable SSD tho
seemingly no SSD controler vendor is open to openness, so it seems like for a OSHW SSD we'll have to wait for open controller silicon -
