        @krutonium @ariadne

        1) 1 line and 2 line trains are both being displayed with (1) in the legend

        2) 2 Line trains arriving at International District/Chinatown from across the lake say that they're going to International District/Chinatown, when they're going to Lynnwood

              (having connect to 1 line at every shared stop however... kinda silly IMO.)

                they slapped a 2 line sticker on the wall next to the train serial number... I guess that means that rolling stock is being statically assigned for now.

                    @ariadne Each unit of rolling stock has a "home" OMF (Operations and Maintenance Facility) it returns to. OMF East is for 2 line trains. OMF Central is for 1 line trains and likely 3 line trains in the future. OMF South will be for 1 and likely 3 line trains as well. Someday there will be an OMF North, for 1 and 2 line trains. If the 4 line is ever built, they'll also likely live at OMF East.

                      @ariadne There's also another factor.

                      They don't need that level of flexibility.

                      They know how many trains they need to run on the line for a given level of service, and they can't run more trains than there are blocks. And often once a consist is assembled it isn't broken unless some of the cars need maintenance or there is some other operational need.

                      They already usually have spares too. So there's no real operational need to dynamically assign trains, and in fact it creates an annoying inventory management issue. It's easier to just keep them assigned to a single line.

                      In larger railways, they might assign rolling stock from a different route onto another, but even then they might not. There's often issues with it. Things like: is there room for it at the destination facility, if that needs to change? Can the demand be met by using existing assigned cars without fucking with the IMS/moving it around/etc.? In some cursed systems like SkyTrain, does it work with the voltage/traction power requirements? Etc.

                        two last questions: do the 1 line trains also have these updates, and, what does it look like after branching away from the interline. I can find out after dropping off my groceries.

                          the benefits of interlining show up here: at 11:40pm it would have been 15 minutes between trains on the weekend...
